There are a lot of ways to slice the emotional punk pie. Rather than picking one lane, Pennsylvania’s Everything I Lack dip their toes in varying takes on a pop-punk theme on their debute EP, Something to Start With.

The four song record┬áhas touches of slower, more atmospheric and straightforward emo (the Sunny Day Real Estate-inspired “It’s Never Cold in Florida”), as well as simmering, Jimmy Eat World-style indie rock (“Skin and Bones). For my money, however, the band sounds best when they’re flexing their power pop / pop punk muscles (like on EP standout “So, How’re You Doing).

Something to Start With is on Bandcamp. Everything I Lack is on Facebook.
